About us
The KF4L Radio Club was founded in November 1954. Our call sign, KF4L, honors one of our beloved members, Lucky, who passed away in 1996. In tribute to his memory, the CATS Radio Club voted to adopt Lucky's call sign as our own.
Quinton Dwayne Holeman, affectionately known as "Lucky" to his friends, was born on February 21, 1927, in Webster County, Kentucky. Lucky retired from the Air Force as a Tech Sergeant, having served his nation in World War II and the Korean War.
In early 1977, Lucky earned his ticket as KA4KAN and later that year, he upgraded to his General Class license. By March 1978, he had earned his Advanced Class license, and in September 1978, he received the call sign KF4L.
We were deeply saddened to lose Lucky to cancer on May 16, 1996. To honor his memory, we use his call sign for the CATS club. So, whenever we participate in a club activity, you can hear Lucky's call sign, KF4L, go across the airwaves.
