What is Field Day?

Welcome to ARRL Field Day, an annual event hosted by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) that unites amateur radio operators across the United States and Canada. Held on the fourth full weekend of June each year, Field Day combines elements of a contest with a public demonstration of emergency communication capabilities.
During Field Day, amateur radio enthusiasts set up temporary stations in parks, campgrounds, and community centers to simulate emergency conditions where conventional communication infrastructure may be unavailable. The event serves multiple purposes: participants practice deploying and operating radio equipment under less-than-ideal circumstances, engage in friendly competition by making as many contacts as possible across North America, and showcase amateur radio's role in emergency preparedness and public service.
Through demonstrations and educational activities, Field Day also aims to raise awareness about amateur radio within local communities. It's an opportunity for both seasoned operators and newcomers to hone their technical skills, build antennas, and learn about the diverse applications of amateur radio.
Join us each June for ARRL Field Day as we celebrate the spirit of amateur radio, demonstrate our emergency communication capabilities, and highlight the invaluable role amateur radio plays in our communities. Whether you're a seasoned operator or curious newcomer, there's something for everyone at Field Day.
Let's get on the air!
